Did You Ever See A Lassie?
Traditional

Lyrics:

Did you ever see a lassie, a lassie, a lassie

Did you ever see a lassie go this way and that?

Go this way and that way,

And this way and that way

Did you ever see a lassie go this way and that?

Did you ever see a lassie, a lassie, a lassie

Did you ever see a lassie go this way and that?

Go this way and that way,

And this way and that way

Did you ever see a lassie go this way and that?

Activities:

Stretchy Band:  Have a group sit around the stretchy band and shake it together up and down on your laps to the beat.   Go left whenever you say “this way”, and go right for “that way.”  You could also try up & down or in & out for “this way” & “that way.”

Then take suggestions for different animals (did you ever see a doggie...).  At the end of each verse, lean back and shout out the animal’s sound.  For alternate versions, you could take suggestions for different family members (did you ever see a mommy...), or even different jobs (did you ever see a policeman, fireman, mailman, - or woman - etc.).

Intro Idea:  Take a moment to ask each child what color they are holding on the stretchy band before starting the song.  It’s a nice way to teach colors and let each child feel special for a moment.

Parachute:  If you have a parachute and at least a small group of people, the activity is the same as above, but standing with a parachute.  Kids can either stand and hold on to the outer edges with the adults or go underneath.  Keep your feet still and just move the parachute with your arms to the left & right, up & down and in & out on different verses.

Lap Song:  Put your child in your lap and sing the song, rocking him/her to the left & right, front & back and up & down.  You can also switch it up by adding different animals on each verse and then making the animal sound.
