Activities

Sit-Down Song: Sing the choruses together, and have your child echo the verses.  Explain that this is a greeting song and take suggestions for welcoming different animals for each verse.

Geography: Find a world map and show your child where the continent of Africa is and explain that this language is spoken in certain countries in that part of the world.

Keep a Beat: Alternate patting your laps and clapping to the beat while chanting the song. Have your child pat his/her lap on beats 1 & 3, and clap on beats 2 & 4.

Rhythm Patterns: After the song, you could do individual rhythm patterns with any animal sound, like “ruff,” “meow,” “moo,” etc. Call out rhythm patterns to your child. Have them echo back to you. This develops their listening skills and rhythm awareness.

Instrument Play: If you have any children’s instruments at home, you can also do this song with instruments and let your child try to play an instrument to the beat while singing.

Make up a Song: Use the melody of the song to make up rhymes while you do chores around the house or other activities, such as, “Let’s change your diaper, so you won’t cry.  Let’s change your diaper, now you’re all dry!”
